personality:
In a lot of ways, Percy Jackson is a typical teenage boy. He's impatient to get his driver's license, likes video games and junk food, is totally awkward when it comes to dealing with the fact that he's got a pretty huge crush on his best friend (made even more awkward by the fact that there's another girl who likes him too) and finds school pretty boring and difficult to get through. This is made slightly more complicated by the fact that he really isn't a normal teenage boy, largely due to the fact that his father is the Greek god of the seas, which means most of his life has been spent - sometimes without his knowledge - avoiding monsters that want to eat him.
Although it was a rocky start at first, Percy has adapted well to finding out his true parentage, and at this point, is generally better adjusted than he was at the beginning of canon, both because he's matured through the experiences he's had and has had more time to really come to terms with what his life has in store for him. Initially doubting and not taking most of the information he was being given all that seriously, Percy has learned a healthy amount of respect for most of the beings he runs into on a regular basis, and has a relatively positive relationship with his immortal parent, rather than being resentful as other demigods are of their divine parent.
This is not to say that he has been completely broken of his tendency to lean towards impudence, as while he is not necessarily blunt, he does generally say what he thinks, especially if he is really morally opposed to something being suggested to him, or if he's just in a bad mood and tired of being messed around with, as he really resents people forcing him into doing what they want. He has a short temper and can get frustrated with people easily, although he tries to keep level headed now more often than he did when he was younger, usually coming off as pretty laid back when in a good mood. He has a generally sarcastic sense of humor, which is pretty much always present no matter how dire or potentially dangerous the situation he's found himself in is.
Patience is a virtue Percy apparently never really picked up on or learned to value, and he often just blurts out exactly what he's thinking without considering the potential consequences. This occasional lack of a brain to mouth filter has gotten him in serious trouble before, as he has a smart mouth and doesn't back down easily from stronger opponents. This also means he usually runs into things head first, and while being impulsive and quick to act can be a good thing, it's also a great way to get seriously injured or end up running for your life away from some angry monster. However, sometimes an opponent doesn't expect him to be quite that recklessly suicidal, and he can use their surprise in his favor. Really though, he could probably do to learn a little more discretion. Generally, his going with his gut feeling on a subject has served him and his friends well, and he always tries to do the right thing.
He is a natural leader, able to keep a level head in crisis situations, and extremely loyal to the people he cares about. Percy's "fatal flaw" is that he puts personal loyalty above everything else. He's willing to give up anything for the well being of people he cares about, and sometimes gets blinded to the actual cause they're fighting for because he wants to protect the people he loves. This also does extend to strangers and enemies as well, as Percy tries to see the good in people (with perhaps the exception of Luke) and really does want to help people if he can. Even if he's a little bumbling and awkward when it comes to dealing with real emotional problems, he does always mean well and puts his whole heart into everything he cares about. He has always been something of an underdog back in the real world, and as such, likes to try to build up and support others who are in that position, as evidenced by his relationships with Grover and Tyson.
He can be pretty stubborn and jealous, not backing down from an argument even when he knows he probably should, and a large part of his resentment towards Luke for a substantial part of the novels is his feelings of jealousy towards his formerly close relationship with Annabeth.
Although he can come off as relatively oblivious - often missing out on simple solutions to things or not quite picking up on the warning signs of disguised as quickly as his companions, and generally being kind of clueless about other people's feelings about certain subjects - Percy is actually pretty smart, and often comes up with very effective ways to get himself and his friends out of dangerous situations with creativity and brainpower. He is, however, not a great student because of his difficulties with reading and paying attention in class, but when taken out of a classroom proves that his often poor grades are not a true indicator of his intelligence.
abilities/powers:
As a demigod child of Poseidon, Percy is pretty dyslexic and has ADHD, which makes reading, sitting still and paying attention for long periods of time a challenge for him. While he can sort of read Ancient Greek without having to have been actually taught the language, he still has a relatively hard time with it, and is a slow reader in general. He has an innate knowledge of spoken Ancient Greek (and occasionally Latin), but doesn't really seem to be able to call upon actually speaking it at will. As a son of Poseidon, he can also communicate with any sea/water dwelling creature telepathically or through normal speech. This ability also extends to horses, including horse relatives like pegasi and zebras. He is also able to consume nectar and ambrosia, which helps demigods heal and recover from serious injury or sickness, although too much will literally burn him up.
He has limited clairvoyance because of his father's unpredictable nature, meaning he can watch events in different locations and times, generally secrets and stories from the past, occasionally taking the place of a different person in these dreams. (Note: This is probably not going to be used all that often in Abax due to potential plotbreak/godmoddy-ness, and if it is ever brought up to use in a plot, I'll ask the mods and/or the players involved for permission before assuming Percy's seen anything.)
After training for several summers at Camp Half-Blood, Percy is quite physically capable for someone his age and size. While he can be overpowered by a stronger opponent, he has been able to get through a number of extremely dangerous combat and disaster situations relying on his fighting ability, agility and survival instincts. He has been trained in several kinds of armed combat, all of which follows a very Greco-Roman fighting style, including work with spears, shields, nets and swords. He's trained with traditional gladiatorial weapons both offensively and defensively, but is best with a sword, having been called a natural and an expert by several other characters in the novels, holding his own against even Gods and Titans. He is, however, pretty abysmal at archery. His sword, Riptide, is enchanted so that no matter what Percy did with it last, it will always reappear in his pocket as a ballpoint pen. Once uncapped, it becomes a three foot long sword made from celestial bronze, which means while it can kill a monster and wound immortals (and other demigods), it will pass through a mortal without harming them at all, and will therefore be practically useless in the city.
As a child of Poseidon, Percy is stronger and has more abilities than most other demigods. When in contact with water, he gains an huge surge in clarity, strength, speed, healing, dexterity, reflexes, agility, and endurance, which has been shown to equaling a god and even more powerful than Ares. This only lasts for a limited amount of time and does eventually drain him unless he is completely submerged in water. He also has advanced hydrokinesis, being able to summon water just about anywhere (from petrified seashells in dirt or from within himself, although calling on it within himself drains him and can be extremely dangerous) and manipulate it as a weapon or defensively, being able to harden it into shields or even to carry his own weight across a lake's surface. When in contact with water, he can heal most wounds and cure some poisons, although life threatening injuries are harder and potentially too difficult to heal. He can breathe underwater without issue and manipulate the oxygen in it to allow others to breathe safely as well, and doesn't seem bothered by pressure when going deep underwater. Unless he wants to get wet, he will always be perfectly dry when in water, and can extend this ability to objects he has on hand as well. He is also harder to burn and generally more heat resistant than normal humans, but can and will be overcome if continuously exposed to extreme temperatures.
He has also been shown to be able to control ice in a similar way to his manipulation of water, and can also summon storms, although this is extremely draining and cannot be maintained for long. He also has the ability to create earthquakes, but cannot control it as well as a child of Hades, and rarely calls upon it.
Percy also shares an empathy link with his friend Grover, wherein the two can communicate even from great distances through dreams or thoughts. If one is killed, the other will either die or fall into a permanent vegetative state, and it can only be severed if the two are face to face and agree to end it.

Prophecies made everything weirder. And considering he'd already spent most of his weekends and any time other people needed him to help out with something fighting monsters and trying to strategize for Kronos's attack, his definition of weird was probably a lot different from most other teenager's.
But knowing he had almost a whole year to wait before he needed to worry about making a call that could topple Olympus was definitely weird. Yes, they needed time to prepare and yes it would be stupid to just rush in without thinking about it, but he'd never really been great at waiting for things.
And maybe the Great Prophecy wasn't about him after all. Maybe he'd get killed in the next few weeks, or during the final battle, and Nico was the one it was talking about. Get killed or potentially destroy civilization as we know it. Both wonderful options to dump into the lap of a fifteen year old. No pressure, Jackson.
So it was times like these that he found kicking back and pretending life was great and normal and fun a little difficult. It was easier when he was hanging out with Rachel, because she was just so normal and kind of helped ground him, but struggling through The Grapes of Wrath during his lunch period, trying to come up with what he wanted to write about for his paper on it and wondering if he should really try eating whatever that congealed blob of food on his tray was? Kind of just made him more antsy. The words were starting to swim on the page, and really, he was finding it hard to care about the upcoming deadline, when that bigger one was already looming just a few months away. Fate of the world? Definitely more important than fictional characters during the Great Depression.
He finally slammed the book shut in frustration, resolving he'd worry about it when he got home from school and went in for another half hearted poke with his fork at the food on his tray. Maybe Rachel would have an idea of something to write about.
